110. What is Freedom?
Aug 18, 2025
What is freedom to you? Many of you will be on summer holidays and away from the daily grind. Having that time out gives us a time to reset, recharge and refocus. How does that correspond with ‘freedom’?
Everyone’s idea of freedom is different - for some it’s financial freedom, others it is location freedom and many it’s freedom of time. Often times stopping the daily grind doesn’t ‘set us free, it reveals how deeply enslaved you were to proving your worth.
You think you'll just feel free once you’ve achieved your goals financially or built your business to a certain level that peace will automatically replace the pressure. Or many you thought you could just effortlessly glide into this new lift chapter.
My goal was to retire at 40 and I achieved that, but what I wasn’t ready for was what really happens… you realize just how deeply performance was embedded in your identity. Retiring wasn’t all roses and sunbathing, it was a chapter of transition and reinvention of a new identity.
I used to feel I needed to justify rest, like having time out required an explanation. I used to fill every minute of every day so that I could ‘prove to myself’ that I was successful, what I didn’t notice was how many ways my performance was wired into my life. Open space and free time used to feel like ‘wasted time’. What I’ve learned is that creating and holding space is vital to elevating personally and professionally. Having that intentional ‘breathing room’ to gain clarity, to visualize and to plan.
I used to be solely focused on the destination and obtaining results, but what I’ve learned is that true transformation isn't about speed, it's about sustainability. Think of the caterpillar into cocoon and then blooming as a butterfly, the transition takes time.
I was addicted to the adrenaline or dopamine hit, whether from a big win, new project, or the next task completed that would make me feel productive. I realized this high performance was often fueled by pressure, not alignment. I have had to learn to function at a high level without urgency or adrenaline. Instead to take aligned action towards my goals, this has actually made me far more successful and productive that working 90 hours ever did!!
I had to unlearn the pressure to perform and that in doing less and slowing down I actually can achieve much more and at a higher quality. It took a transformation period of unlocking who I was when I wasn’t constantly running on adrenaline and fueled by coffee.
This conversation we have in our community quite often with women who are transitioning from rushed riches to wellness, wellbeing and wealth.
My TOP tips:
β¨Time management - allocate time for everything that is a priority
β¨Organisation - plan ahead personally & professionally
β¨Preset - be present in the moment - with your kids, spouse & at work
Remember, the faster the world moves, the easier it is to drift. Stay focussed on your roadmap and achieving your goals
