80. 10 Steps to Spring Clean
Jan 20, 20251. Clean up your shop window
Whether that is on social media, your website or physical premises. Make sure your branding message is clear. Look at your business through client's eyes, and visit your website as a guest. What message do you get, what can you do differently? What do you want it to look like?
2. Check what works
Quality of what you post, how you communicate and what offers you run are much better received if they are quality over quantity. Whether you are familiar with the 80/20 Pareto Law, the gist is that less is more. Reflect on what went well last year, what is happening in the year ahead and make a plan- focus on monthly and seasonally.
3. Feng Shui the room
Enter your business and look at every aspect- tools, instruments, soft furnishings, etc. If you don't use it regularly or absolutely love it, then it doesn't have a purpose. Do you use it? Do you need it? If the answer is NO then bin it.
4. Take control of cash flow
This can be daunting, but it essential to a healthy business. Take time to assess your bills- what is essential for the business and what isn't? Work with your suppliers, check with your accountant, and the banks. What offers are available? Each year look at renegotiating rental terms, bank fees, merchant card fees and credit card terms. What are the best offers for your business?
5. Clean your data base
Review your client list and categorise clients by treatments and expenditure. Ensure you stay connected with these clients and have a marketing plan. Update any missing information on their record cards during their next visit.
6. Polish up your skill set
We all love this industry because it is continually developing. Review your training history and learn something new each year. Continued Professional Development ensures you stay abreast of industry trends and government guidelines.
7. Dust off your business plan
Each quarter if not annually revisit your business plan. Re-evalute the objectives and goals. Create monthly and quarterly goals to grow and develop your business. Make a 90 day plan and strategise how to achieve it.
8. Clear the air
Whether you are a solo business owner or have staff, check in regularly. Find a mentor to help you develop and reach out to your staff regularly with meetings and one to ones. Remove any obstacles and keep open communication about positive change. Keep yourself and staff motivated and ready to work.
9. Fresh Ideas Blossom
Have a digital brainstorm with staff, valued clients and other business owners. What new promotions and services would you like to offer? How can you make current systems easier?
10. Dig into Digital
Refresh your business website, tidy social media, strengthen your digital connection and engagement. Keep this momentum to continue to grow and gain future clients.
As a business owner, you have a commitment to yourself, to your clients, to your staff and to your business. Commit to being successful, if you don't work...nothing will.
